One of the most frequently asked questions I've ever got in real life is "How/Where did you do your hair?", and I always answer them like "What do you mean? Absolute natural, I've never done my hair myself or been to hair salon for having my hair done. I only go to hair salon to have my hair washed.", and they just casually play with my hair. Also I've never get my hair dyed (my thick straight black Asian natural hair just suits me best).
I've never finished watching Harvard's CS50 lectures every year, only watched it out of curiosity, it's from Ivy League so it must be quality at some level. The courses were taught by Dr. David, he speaks fast and I understand what he says, I thought I was watching a documentary series like a hobbyist programmer. It's very beginner-friendly, he just breaks down the logic with examples, I don't know if all Harvard students understand them.
Talking about top-ranked CS universities in the world, nobody around me mentions Harvard, they'd drop some names like MIT, CMU, Standford, Princeton, Oxford & Cambridge, Georgia. I don't know how hard Harvard CS assignments are, I just know it must have problem sets and the students must understand algorithms. I don't know how many students from those prestigious schools have skill issues, like more overthinking and being less hands-on.
I write automation scripts to design UI layouts on Figma (Figma Plugins), just another way to practice writing JS and TS but I can earn myself by selling my plugins, haven't posted anything on my Dribbble profile yet. I also write automation scripts to generate HTML and CSS files: JS for generate Tailwind layouts, TS for large layout engines, both to integrate with JS frameworks like Vue and React, overall they should be professional.
Thought about developing a frontend layout generator GitHub Pages site before, it was meant for indie devs because it would generate HTML, CSS and JS files only, no frameworks, basic enough so the users can custom their site however they want. I've never tried WebGL frameworks for making 3D models and worlds, if I tried, understanding A-Frame and Three.js would take time. I think it's hard to develop 3D layout generator Github Page site.
Haven't joined hackathon once in my life, only highschool students and college students can join the competitions. Was always busy cramming for the graduation exams and watching Youtube videos about different jobs in real life during highschool phase because in where I live, companies would care about interviewing me if I got a bachelor of which major. Can't compete with other applicants if I got a lower degree like a certificate or a diploma.
Might join an online hackathon instead although I'm still not used to inviting some guys on Discord to and join together as a team, time management is harder for me but I'm more comfortable with online group discussions. What I mentioned above is the annual offline hackathon for students only, there are also annual offline hackathons for IT company staffs and for IT companies, I don't work for any companies as a developer now so I can't join.
Even if I can get jobs done although the jobs are irrelevant to my major or I wasn't trained to do those jobs by my university/college lecturers and tutors, I'd get rejected by most companies, they don't care about my real nurtured skills and my finished projects as much as my degree, it doesn't make sense but that's the rule I have to follow in where I live. My degree decides which position and the option range I got to work in any company.
For example, I can apply for UI/UX design job if I got bachelor of graphic design. I can't apply for graphic designer position because my bachelor degree is ICT although I was taught how to design UI/UX for websites and apps, it's obviously graphic design relevant. The lecturers and tutors didn't teach me how to use tools, students like me had to go through tutorial hell for that. They taught us the basic logic, gave us feedbacks on our works.
Earning as a freelancer is different, I don't have to waste time on going to workplaces and then going home during rush hours. I got orders because the customers can take a look at my demo photos so they can imagine how the finished products would turn out if they pay me to do the jobs. I display and update guidelines about how reviewing phases look, DOs and DON'Ts for them, they have to read it before ordering me but they'd contact me to ask.
